Frank Darabont Comes Out of Retirement to Direct Two Episodes of Stranger Things Season 5
Oscar-nominated director Frank Darabont, known for his work on The Shawshank Redemption and The Walking Dead, is coming out of retirement to direct two episodes of the final season of Stranger Things. After more than a decade away from filmmaking, Darabont was drawn back by his and his wife’s love for the hit series. He will helm episodes 3 and 5 of the much-anticipated fifth season, which is expected to air in 2025.
Darabont expressed that Stranger Things' heart and positivity were what motivated him to return, saying it stood out from today’s darker content. While it’s unclear if he will remain active in the industry beyond this project, Darabont is excited to reunite with creative minds on set.
His return adds even more anticipation to the final season of Stranger Things, a show heavily inspired by 1980s culture, including the works of Stephen King, with whom Darabont has had a long collaborative history.
As the series approaches its conclusion, fans can expect an epic sendoff with Darabont’s expert direction adding depth to the supernatural world of Hawkins, Indiana.
